NWEA testing begins this week!! All our students in grades 7-10 will test this week so parents, give us some help at home. Keep your children well fed and get them plenty of rest so we can be fully prepared for testing!! I love watching our students take these tests because they do try so hard to get the best score possible. It truly does help our teachers find areas of strength and weakness with all our kids!! We certainly can create some great school-wide learning goals once we’re done.
Cross Country will be especially busy this week. The first meet for them this week is on Thursday, the 19th, when they go to Cavalier. The meet will start at 4:30. On Saturday, the 21st, our harriers will head to Valley City for meet. Typically, those weekend meets start around 10:30 but check the school webpage to make sure that time doesn’t change.
Football is now 3-0 on the season and the guys looked really strong last Friday!! Park River is a very good team and will beat a lot of teams this year so getting that win is a huge plus for our boys!! This Friday is another home game for the Bears as Lakota/Dakota Prairie/Edmore comes to visit. This is the first year either school has played 11-man football in quite a few years but I guarantee they’ll be physical and they’ll bring a pretty darn good football team to town. Kickoff is 7:00 pm. On Monday, the 16th, our Jr. High football team will go over to Hillsboro/Central Valley for a game starting at 4:30. The game will be played in Hillsboro. The JV boys are also on the road, going to Northern Cass for a 6:00 kickoff.
Volleyball is truly in the meat of their schedule right now. We are currently 2-0 in district play after the win at Dakota Prairie last week. This week our girls are at MPCG on Tuesday, the 17th. Jr. High starts at 4:00, C squad starts at 5:00 and the JV and Varsity will follow. Thursday, the 19th, our girls head over to Hillsboro/Central Valley for another district contest. The games are in Hillsboro and it all starts with the Jr. High at 4:00, the C squad at 5:00, and the JV and Varsity following the C squad. The week doesn’t end there though. On Saturday, the 21st, our varsity girls will play in a tournament at Grafton. The JV will play in a tournament at Hillsboro, and the 7th grade volleyball team will play in a tournament at Thompson. Quite a week for everyone associated with volleyball!!!
Remind your children that tryouts for the One-Act play will be held tonight at 7:30 in the Avalon theater. They should contact Alan Melby if there is a conflict tonight but they want to tryout. On Tuesday, the 17th, our 7th graders will spend the day at Turtle River taking part in EcoEd camp. That event runs all day. On Wednesday, the 18th, the LHS student council is sponsoring a Blood Drive in the Old Gym. The event will run from 9:00 to 3:00 and walk ups are welcome. There is a registration form in the office at the high school if you want to sign up. Also on Wednesday, there will be a flu shot clinic held in the Old Gym starting at 2:45 to 4:30. Your children should be bringing home information on the clinic today!!
